Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate both muscle activity levels and ratios of local to global muscle activity.

Method : Eight healthy young subjects were recruited for this study. Surface electromyographic(EMG) activities were recorded from the multifidus, erector spinae muscles during bridging, unstable bridging and unilateral bridging exercises.

Results : The study showed that the EMG activities of the muscles were significantly higher during the unilateral bridging exercise compared with the bridging exercise. The relative muscle activity and the ratios of the muscles demonstrated similar activity levels for all muscles, resulting in ratios of 1.

Conclusion : Performing the unilateral bridging exercise shows further increased muscle activity.
